Building Champions. Strengthening Communities.

About

ABOUT us

The Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh (ASFL) is a youth-driven not-for-profit Section 8 company working to strengthen grassroots sports, winter sports development, high-altitude training, and youth leadership in Ladakh. Founded by national ice hockey player Chamba Tsetan and co-founder Dorjay Namgyal, ASFL believes sports can become a powerful tool for opportunity, confidence, and community development in remote Himalayan regions.

Coming from the nomadic region of Changthang, Chamba’s journey began on natural frozen ponds in Ladakh and eventually led him to represent India in the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia from 2016 to 2018. In 2017, Team India won a historic silver medal in Kuwait, where Chamba was awarded the Best Forward of the Tournament. In 2025, he also represented India at the Asian Winter Games in Harbin as Assistant Captain of the national team.

Today, ASFL works toward building structured pathways for young athletes through Learn to Skate and Learn to Play programs, winter sports initiatives, endurance events, mentorship systems, and community-led sports development across Ladakh. The foundation also successfully organised the Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon, one of the world’s highest frozen lake endurance events, helping position Ladakh as an emerging hub for winter and mountain sports in India.

In collaboration with the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, the Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh successfully organised the Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon on 20 February 2023 on the frozen Pangong Lake at an altitude of 4,273 metres (14,019 ft). Officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s highest frozen lake half marathon, the event brought together runners from across India and abroad in one of the harshest and most breathtaking winter landscapes in the Himalayas.
